SAN DIEGO –
Three people, including a sheriff’s deputy, were injured at the end of a
pursuit through the South Bay today.
The chase began in Imperial Beach at about 10 a.m.
when deputies were called to 13th Street and Donax Avenue to investigate a car
burglary. The suspected burglar took off and led deputies on a pursuit into San
Ysidro, according to officials with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.
The pursuit transitioned to Interstate 5, onto side
streets in Chula Vista, and back onto northbound I-5, with speeds reaching 100
mph, deputies said.
The suspect lost control of his vehicle and crashed
into a bridge at the top of the H Street off-ramp, and a deputy involved in the
pursuit crashed into another vehicle at the top of the off-ramp. Both were
taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.
The suspect fled on foot, but deputies took him into
custody on the shoulder of I-5. He was taken to a nearby hospital and treated
for his injuries.
