One dead in fatal collision in La Mesa

LA MESA – A man was fatally struck by a car Tuesday on a street near Lake Murray.

The pedestrian was hit by a westbound vehicle about 3:30 p.m. on Lake Murray Boulevard, near Marengo Avenue in La Mesa, said Sonny Saghera, spokesman for Heartland Fire & Rescue.

The victim, believed to be roughly 50 to 60 years old, died at the scene. His name was not immediately available.

The fatality forced the closure of traffic lanes near the road crossing. Police asked motorists to avoid the area if possible.
