May 6, 2019

SAN DIEGO – One motorist was killed and three people were injured Monday morning in a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 805 in the North Park area, authorities said.
The crash, involving a Kia Optima, a Mercedes, and a box truck, was reported shortly after 12:50 AM on southbound Interstate 805 near El Cajon Boulevard, California Highway Patrol said.
The 31-year-old driver of the Kia Optima got out of the vehicle and was struck by the Mercedes driven by a 28-year-old man, according to CHP.
The drive of the Optima was pronounced dead at the scene, said CHP.
The incident left the box truck overturned onto its side and the Mercedes severely mangled.
The solo occupant of the box truck and the two people in the Mercedes, including a 29-year-old woman, were transported to Scripps Mercy Hospital in Hillcrest with non-life-threatening injuries, CHP said.
The crash shut down the three left lanes of I-805 south near El Cajon Boulevard, but they were reopened around 6:30 AM, CHP said.
CHP officers are investigating the crash.
